Brittney Griner celebrates LGBTQ Pride Night with MLB team

Brittney Griner is an absolute superstar on the basketball court for the Phoenix Mercury and she is also an LGBTQ icon and a staunch supporter of LGBTQ rights. As a result, she was invited by the Arizona Diamondbacks to throw the opening pitch for their Pride Night celebration on Friday night.

On Friday night, Brittney Griner was one of three Phoenix Mercury players who were selected to throw the opening pitch for the team’s Pride Night celebration game.

Griner joined Mercury teammates Kahleah Copper and Natasha Cloud in throwing the ceremonial first pitches ahead of Friday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

“We kicked off our Pride Night celebrations with first pitches from Brittney Griner, Kahleah Copper, and Natasha Cloud from the Phoenix Mercury,” the Arizona Diamondbacks official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

All three of the Mercury players threw strikes to the Diamondbacks players catching the balls behind the plate and they quickly celebrated by embracing the Diamondbacks players and having their balls signed.

The festivities proved to be a good omen for the Diamondbacks as they won the game by a final score of 7-1.
