PETALING JAYA: Police will look into the possibility of assigning policemen to Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s parents after the family filed a report over the alleged leak of information about the probe into his murder.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan told FMT they will “assess” the level of security of the couple, who were charged with child neglect on Thursday after being initially investigated for murder.
Earlier, Hussein confirmed that two reports had been filed over the leak, one by Zayn’s family and another by the investigating officer who was handling the case.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had also advised Zayn’s family to file a police report if they felt threatened by the purported leak, saying it was the police’s responsibility to ensure their safety.
Hussein cautioned the public against sharing any content classified under the Official Secrets Act, saying doing so would disrupt any investigation and the process of prosecuting the suspects in court.
He also said legal action would be taken against anyone found sharing the purported leaked information involving Zayn’s murder investigation.
Zayn, a six-year-old autistic boy, was found dead near a stream not far from his apartment in Damansara Damai, Selangor, on Dec 6 last year, a day after he was reported missing.
The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, including defensive wounds, while the cause of death was believed to be strangulation.
Last Thursday, Zayn’s father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, and mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, pleaded not guilty to neglecting him and exposing him to danger.
