Mahomes Raves About 'Intelligent' Xavier Worthy: 'I'm Excited!'
Just days into OTAs, the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to figure out how all of their additions this offseason fit into the team coming from back-to-back Super Bowls.
However, there is one notable absence so far: rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy, who suffered a hamstring injury. Yet, despite the minor setback, Worthy is still an active participant off the field, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed Wednesday.

“I think you can tell how intelligent he is; he is asking the right questions,” Mahomes said. “Before he had the hamstring thing, he was getting in — he was getting the work in. ...
“We’re going to be precautionary right now — he could probably get out there if we really wanted him to. You can see he’s sitting right beside the guys asking all the right questions and whenever he does get back on the field, I’m excited to get to work with him.”
It certainly isn't the start to his NFL career that Worthy wanted, as these practice reps in OTAs could prove valuable later, especially considering that it gives him extra time to start building chemistry with Mahomes.
Nevertheless, whenever the NFL's newest record holder for the fastest 40-yard dash time at the Scouting Combine returns, he will be one of two new weapons that Mahomes and the Chiefs hope to utilize.
After a troubled offseason for second-year receiver Rashee Rice, which could lead to a potential suspension from the league office, Worthy could immediately be thrust into a prominent role in the offense.
Considering the success that Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense found with Rice last season, as he led the team in receiving with 938 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 receptions, it isn't hard to imagine Worthy finding similar success.
However, Worthy will focus on recovering from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him just days into OTAs.
