Legendary BBC sitcom returning after nearly a decade - with its original stars all coming back
Fan-favourite TV sitcom Outnumbered is returning to BBC after almost a decade off-screen with the five original stars to return.
The returnees include Hugh Dennis as dad Pete, Claire Skinner as mum Sue, Tyger Drew-Honey as eldest son Jake, Daniel Roche as the middle child Ben, and Ramona Marquez as daughter, Karen.
The characters are all back for a Christmas special in 2024, which will see how Pete and Sue are coping now their kids are all grown up.
The new story will show how the kids are now all adults - and one has a child of their own - but they are brought back together to celebrate a traditional family Christmas. Somehow fate, neighbours, hyenas and bus replacement services get in their way.
The whole family will return for a new episode this Christmas
Speaking to the Mirror about the show's return, Hugh said: “I can’t wait for the Brockmans to be back together again. Pete and Sue have downsized, the children are no longer children, but I’m sure family life will prove to be just as chaotic as ever.”
Claire added: “I’m really looking forward to being reunited with my TV family. Working on this wonderful BBC comedy doesn’t feel like work and is one of the greatest joys for us all.”
Daniel was also thrilled to be getting the band back together and posted an image with himself Tyger and Ramona with the caption: "We all know Christmas is the time for family, so after several years away, the Brockman family will be returning to your screens Christmas 2024. Look forward to joining you."
The Outnumbered kids are all grown-up
Outnumbered first aired in 2007 and won multiple awards during the seven years it was on air. In 2009 they scooped up the Scripted Comedy award from the Royal Television Society. And Ramona won Best Female Newcomer in the 2009 British Comedy Awards.
The show was partly improvised due to the three children being so young, but now fans will be shocked to discover Tyger is 28, Daniel is 24 and Ramona is 23.
More surprisingly, the two adult leads, Hugh and Claire have reportedly been dating since 2018. The pair first met on the set of Outnumered and now, the actors are said to be in a relationship after both having split from their partners previously.
Outnumbered won a National Television award in 2012
The show's return was announced on Wednesday 22 May at the BBC’s comedy festival in Glasgow. Comedy boss Jon Petrie said: “Outnumbered is one of the crown jewels of British sitcoms. We're so grateful to Guy, Andy, Hattrick, and the cast for dusting it off and putting it back on display.
