Cheras hospital, NGO bring festive cheer to rehabilitation patients
Sharing the joy with patients at HRC is Lee (standing eighth from left) and Dr Faizul (standing ninth from left).
During challenging times, a strong community spirit is what helps.
Firmly believing in this, non-governmental organisation Alliance for a Safe Community (Ikatan) promotes the role of community care at Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (HRC).
HRC is a disabled-friendly hospital set up under the aegis of Health Ministry, at a total cost of RM342mil.
Located at Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, HRC is reportedly the country’s best rehabilitation hospital.
Established in 2012, it has 166 beds in six wards catering to different rehabilitation needs.
Most of the patients suffer injuries as a result of road accidents and falls from high places.
There are also patients who are recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions.
The hospital treats children and senior citizens as well as adults.
Designed to be a one-stop health centre, HRC is able to provide its patients with most of their treatments on-site.
However, the majority of the hospital’s B40 patients are battling chronic illnesses and are in need of support and funds, especially during festive seasons.
To uplift their spirits, Ikatan chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye presented packages of rice, biscuits, Milo and ointment to 40 patients selected by the hospital management.
HRC director Dr Faizul Nizam Abu Salim expressed his gratitude for the support from Lee and Ikatan.
