Sorry Fahmi – PAS stays with PN, says Takiyuddin
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan says his party is not like those in the government coalition which change their promises before and after an election.
PETALING JAYA: Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil was urged today to stop trying to twist perceptions about political opponents, with PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan saying the party would remain in Perikatan Nasional and would not join the unity government coalition.
Takiyuddin accused Fahmi of using his imagination when he was quoted in recent news reports as claiming that there were “talks” about PAS joining the government coalition.
“It has nothing to do with PAS, and is merely Fahmi’s imagination,” said Takiyuddin in a statement this evening.
“Fahmi should be more transparent and not be delusional by playing with perception and slander to discredit other political opponents,” he added.
Takiyuddin pointed out that the “talks” Fahmi mentioned were discussions on matters relating to the federal and state governments. PAS forms the state governments in three states.
“PAS is not like the political parties in the government coalition that change their promises and stances before and after an election or at any other time when they are in a difficult situation,” he said.
Takiyuddin is the third PAS leader to come out against talk of PAS joining the government coalition, after Fahmi was quoted in several news reports on the matter. Yesterday, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Ulama Council chairman Ahmad Yahaya also dismissed the rumours.
