England have fallen behind in their Euro 2024 Round of 16 game against Slovakia.
After an end-to-end start to the game in Gelsenkirchen, Ivan Schranz stunned the travelling England support to give the Falcons the lead.
Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo had been named in England’s starting XI, in place of Conor Gallagher, in the only change to the team which was held to a 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.
The group stage was something of a disappointment for Gareth Southgate’s side, who will need a big performance to get fans back onside and restore faith that football will indeed come home this summer.
Slovakia have started the game as big underdogs – but after beating Belgium in their opening game of the tournament – they certainly should not be underestimated – and now especially in light of their surprise opener.
