Kaizer Chiefs restructuring: Here are two likely departures!

Kaizer Chiefs are working on restructuring the team ahead of next season, and they have already made decisions on a few individuals.

Coach Cavin Johnson was the latest individual to be shown the exit door after what was a difficult stint as Chiefs interim coach.

He left having won just six, drawn seven and lost nine of the 22 matches he was in charge of across all competitions last term.

The 65–year-old mentor paves way for the incoming Nasreddine Nabi who officially vacated his position as head coach of AS FAR on Monday.

Another member of the technical team who has left is veteran goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker but his departure is understandable.

When Dinkelacker returned to Naturena last year, the two parties had agreed that it would just be for a season as he had already retired.

“Coach Rainer Dinkelacker, who was recalled at the start of the season to assist in the goalkeeping department, has left as per agreement. We thank him and his family for allowing him to leave Germany and rejoin the team to share his knowledge with the coaches and our goalkeepers,” reads part of Chiefs’ statement.

Furthermore, Keagan Dolly, Siyethemba Sithebe, Jasond Gonzalez, Njabulo Ngcobo and S’fiso Hlanti are the five players who have left.

Now, who else is likely to leave Chiefs in the coming days? The South African

KAIZER CHIEFS TO LET GO OF THESE TWO INDIVIDUALS?

The two individuals likely to be released by Kaizer Chiefs are from the goalkeeping department, and they are Itumeleng Khune and Aubrey Mathibe.

Khune, as per the club’s statement when he signed a new deal last year, was in his final season with Chiefs.

However, the now 37-year-old shot-stopper appears reluctant to either retire or leave Chiefs but he’s unlikely to stay at Naturena.

Talks between between the two parties are ongoing but Khune appears to be edging closer to the exit door he entered in as a 12-year-old some 25 years ago.

Mathibe will be replaced by incoming goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, who confirmed accepting Nabi’s offer to work with him.

Now, chances of Chiefs or Nabi keeping Mathibe in the team are close to zero given how poor the goalkeeping department was last season under his watch.

NEW SIGNINGS EXPECTED AT NATURENA

Meanwhile, while process of releasing players is already underway, Chiefs are only expected to make formal bids and start buying players once Nabi has arrived.
