Body-worn cameras to enter NSW hospitals
There were attacks on people who are simply trying to keep us alive and well. The escalation and attacks has reached crisis point, the number of assaults in hospitals almost doubling in the past decade, with three deaths this year. Less than two weeks ago, three security guards and a male nurse were allegedly stabbed by a man with a knife at Westmead Hospital. With unions and staff calling for better security and emergency departments, the government has announced a 12 month trial, much as police and paramedics do security guards in at least nine hospitals across the state. Test 300 body cameras to see if they provide an effective deterrent. We have to have a situation where our frontline security staff feel as though that they have measures in place to be able to reduce these incidents escalating. Seriously. Staff at 4 Sydney hospitals will take part Westmead, Nepean, Liverpool and Royal North Shore now the Health Services Union has welcomed this as a good first step. I'll have what else they're calling for. 9 News at six.
