The Los Angeles Kings were a team that had one of the fewest draft picks in the 2024 NHL Draft.
After their first-round selection of forward Liam Greentree from the Windsor Spirtfires of the OHL with the 26th overall pick, they had a second-round pick, which they used to draft Carter George from the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL.
After the first two rounds, the Kings waited until the sixth round to make their next pick. GM Rob Blake and the Anaheim Ducks made a trade that forced the Kings up in the draft, but it cost them two picks.
They traded the 182nd pick and 214th pick to the Ducks for the 164th pick so they could make their next selection.
With that sixth-round pick, they selected Jared Woolley from the London Knights of the OHL. At 6-foot-5, 207 pounds, he is a mobile two-way defenseman who will benefit from playing with the Knights' in the OHL for the next two seasons.
Wooley could end up being a steal in the draft for the Kings since he is only 18 and only played in 37 games with the Knights last season. He will likely spend the next two seasons with the organization and grow his game before making the jump to the AHL.
With their last pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the Kings used their seventh-round pick to select James Reeder.
Reeder is an American forward who is committed to the University of Denver for the 2024–25 season. Although he is smaller, at 5-foot-10, 188 pounds, however, he has been described as a fearless dynamic forward.
Similar to Woolley, Reeder will require some time to grow his game and potentially even gain some weight to his frame before making the jump to the AHL.
