South Western Highway: Truck carrying offal spills on major WA road causing foul smell
A truck carrying offal managed to literally spill its guts on Friday, leaving a trail of putrid waste running through the South West.
The spill started on the corner of Herbert Road and Hocart Road near the Harvey townsite, with mounds of offal stretching down the South Western Highway through Brunswick and into the Shire of Dardanup.
The spill happened on Friday morning and crews were on the scene shortly afterwards trying to contain the mess.
The Shire of Harvey responded to a post about the incident on the Harvey notice board community Facebook page stating its environmental health team was on the case.

“The team is working with the relevant authorities to ensure the necessary precautions are in place and there is no risk to public health,” the shire said.
The spill also stretched into parts of the Shire of Dardanup, with the council taking to social media to inform its community of the spillage on Banksia Road and along Dowdells Line.
“Rest assured our environmental health team and maintenance crews are taking the necessary precautions and Main Roads WA are aware of the spillage,” a council statement said.
Community members also took to social media to comment on the incident.
One commenter asked if they would be compensated to help clean the cars covered in gore from driving through the site.
“It’s all over the bottom of my car, I couldn’t help but run over it due to on-coming traffic, it’s disgusting,” one person commented.
“It was revolting, all the way from Harvey to Brunswick!” another commented.
Some commented on the abundance of crows, thankful they were contributing in a small way to the clean up.
Other commented on the potential risk the hazardous waste could have on local health and some opted to make jokes.
“How offal for the town,” one commenter said.
