Monsoon to hit most regions of India in July, Delhi to see above normal rain

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, on Monday released its four-week forecast, predicting rainfall anomalies for the upcoming month.

This comprehensive forecast indicates a predominantly favourable monsoon season for most regions across India, with a few exceptions.

For the week from June 30 to July 6, the forecast predicts excessive rainfall in the Northeastern and Northwestern regions, as well as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

Rajasthan and Gujarat are also expected to experience above normal rainfall during this period. Similarly, the entire western coast along the Arabian Sea is anticipated to receive above normal rains. However, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Kerala are likely to experience below normal rainfall.

The week from July 7 to July 13 will witness less intense but more widespread heavy rainfall. The Northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, are predicted to see above normal rains.

This trend continues for Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, parts of Maharashtra, and Telangana, as well as the western coast. In contrast, the Northeastern states, along with parts of Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, are expected to receive below normal rainfall.

For the third week beginning on July 14 and ending on July 20, the forecast indicates above normal rainfall for Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Only some parts of Jharkhand and the Northeast states may experience below normal rainfall during this period.

Meanwhile, during the week of July 21 to July 27, above normal rainfall is projected for a belt stretching from the Northeastern states to Punjab, crisscrossing Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Uttarakhand.

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the western coast will also likely see heightened rainfall. The remaining areas are expected to receive normal rainfall.
