Who Should The Sharks Target At No. 11?
The San Jose Sharks move up three spots in the 2024 NHL Draft and will pick 11th, but who should they choose?
GM Mike Grier traded with the Buffalo Sabres to slide up and now has four picks in the first two rounds (1, 11, 33, 53).
There has been much chatter in Las Vegas leading up to tonight's draft, but the consensus THN has heard is that San Jose moved up to pick a defenseman.
The first thought is that if Denver University defenseman Zeev Buium is available, the Sharks should pick him. Although some mock drafts have Buium going much higher in the draft, he could slip back to the Sharks at 11.
Buium would be a dream scenario for the Sharks, but it doesn't seem likely to happen.
Carter Yakemchuk is another defenseman THN has heard that the Sharks have taken a close look at. Unlike Buium, Yakemchuk is ranked near where the Sharks are picking.
Daily Faceoff's Seven Ellis ranked the Calgary Hitmen defenseman at No. 13. The defenseman had 30 goals and 41 assists in 66 games. He also had 120 PIMs and loves to play aggressive.
While the Sharks are rumored to take a defenseman, Cole Eiserman is still considered a potential pick at No. 11.
Eiserman is seen as the 2024 NHL Draft's best goalscorer.
"There isn't a prospect with a better shot in the draft, and he's now the all-time leading goal-scorer in USA Hockey National Team Development history. I thought he had an up-and-down U-18 World Championship, but he really showed how much energy and violence he can bring at times. Defensively, Eiserman can be invisible, though. I think the upside is still huge but at this point, you're going to need a more defensively responsible center to take the pressure off him. The right usage will allow Eiserman to be a star, and I truly believe in him," Ellis wrote.
The other aspect for Eiserman is that he and expected No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini are excellent friends. While that doesn't affect who Mike Grier might select, ensuring top talents are comfortable in the NHL is critical for their development.
Anton Silayev, EJ Emery, and Zane Parekh are other options that might be available at No. 11 for the Sharks.
