Less than two weeks before Samsung's July 10 Unpacked event, purported images of two new foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, have leaked.
9to5Google reports that leaker Evan Blass posted rendered images on social media and on his Substack newsletter. More images were posted on the website WinFuture showing additional colors of the two new devices expected to be announced at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, which will take place in Paris.
Judging by the new images, the Fold 6 appears to be available in pink, dark navy blue and silver, while the Flip 6 is shown in silver, green, light blue and yellow.
Updates to the Flip 6 are expected to be minor, at least design-wise, but the Flip 6 is likely to include a new processor to match the Galaxy S flagship, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, though there may be multiple variants of the Flip 6. The Flip 6 could also feature a larger battery and upgraded camera.
As for the Fold 6, it could sport a larger cover screen and design that's closer to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and also be released with a variant version. It may not receive a camera upgrade. So far, Samsung has dominated the foldable-phone market, but it's now competing with Google's Pixel Fold, the OnePlus Open and the Motorola Razr. It's also been hinted that both phones will get new artificial intelligence features.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Flexes Its Foldable Beauty
It's easy to dismiss the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 as a minor upgrade. Yes, it's definitely an incremental improvement, but one of an already solid, well-established foldable: the Z Fold 4.
The centerpiece is still the main foldable display, which is brighter than the one on last year's Z Fold 4.
The basics of the Z Fold 5 are essentially the same as the Z Fold 4 in terms of the overall design, screen sizes, buttons, software support, S Pen support and, of course, that $1,800 price.
The Z Fold 5's new hinge changes things. With previous Z Folds, the main screen experience was excellent, but when closed, it was an awkward phone. It was bulky, and the previous hinge didn't allow it to close completely flat, leaving an actual wedge-shaped gap between the folded sides.

The only things that come in the box of the $1,800 Galaxy Z Fold 5 are the phone, a USB-C cable and documentation. That's it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is an excellent mini-tablet.
Zoom calls over the main screen's under-display camera were awkward and not because of the poor image quality. Truth is, most people on the call had no idea I was on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 aside from the strange camera angle that looked up my nose (unless I put the phone on a pile of cookbooks).
The Z Fold 5 has the same 50-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel ultrawide and 10-megapixel telephoto as the Z Fold 4. It can also be its own tripod.
Taking photos and videos with the Fold 5 is fun. When it's closed it's rather discreet.

Like the previous Z Fold, the main screen supports the S Pen Fold Edition, but the cover screen doesn't. This still bums me out.
The Z Fold 5 has the same tall thin Sony Xperia 1 V phone aspect ratio that will still be hit or miss for some.
