Will star receiver Brandon Aiyuk stay with 49ers? Team legend isn't so sure

What will the San Francisco 49ers do about the future of star receiver Brandon Aiyuk?

Aiyuk was selected in the first round of the 2020 National Football League Draft by the 49ers and has developed into a true star. The 26-year-old has gotten better each season so far and racked up just under 1,400 receiver yards on 105 receptions in 2023.

He has been in rumors recently as his future with the team very much is in question. Aiyuk is looking for a new deal and while there has been interest on both sides, they haven't come to terms leading many to wonder if he could get traded.

It's unclear what the two sides will end up doing, but 49ers legend Vernon Davis weighed in on what he thinks could happen.

"Well, you know it's easy to predict and say they will let him go or say they're going to keep him," Davis said. "I think it all depends on the numbers. It's a numbers game...In my mind, I would say that they're going to let him go. That's what I would say."

Aiyuk has been in rumors all offseason to this point. He is looking for a massive deal and while the 49ers may want to keep him around, they will end up having to lose some people. San Francisco has one of the best cores in football but it will be expensive as people start making their way to their second contracts.

At this point, it wouldn't be too shocking to see Aiyuk get moved and Davis seems to think the same.

Davis was a star on the field with the 49ers and certainly has been busy off of it since announcing his retirement in 2020. The two-time Pro Bowler has a memoir documenting his life both on and off the field coming out called "Playing Ball" which is sure to be a hit.
