Multi-platinum singer Paolo Nutini has announced he will return to his hometown of Paisley for a one-off show, marking the first time he has played there in over seven years.

The 37-year-old Scottish singer has a busy summer planned with gigs all across Europe, but it seems one concert will be the most memorable.

Taking place at Paisley Town Hall on August 6, Nutini will play an intimate set to a crowd of just 1000 people, with all proceeds from tickets sold to be donated to two charities.

Nutini and his team have chosen the town’s anti-poverty charity, The STAR Project, and Gaza and the West Bank-based humanitarian medical care providers Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) as the two recipients.

The Candy singer last performed in his hometown almost a decade ago, when he played at Paisley Abbey during The Spree, their multi-arts festival.

While fans have long awaited Nutini’s return home, tickets seem hard to get as they are being distributed as part of a competition instead of through a ticket sale site.

Those wanting to attend the show will have to win a £3 ‘text to donate’ competition, which began at 8am Friday morning and will run until 11.59 pm on July 7.

Tickets will be distributed in sets of two, and fans can enter up to four times, with winners to be announced between July 8 and August 5.

Nutini announced the ticket process on his social media accounts on Thursday, and many fans were quick to praise him for his kindness.

‘You are the best kind of superstar @PaoloNutini – big hearted, grounded and kind. Thank you for this gig and this opportunity to generate much needed income for these two fantastic charities. #KindnessIsPowerful #BigBigLove’ @inspiralba tweeted.

‘What a classy move could’ve sold thousands of tickets and personally profited. But decided to give proceeds to charities’, @dominothecat wrote on Instagram.

@magpiesneedle added, ‘Still got you’re feet on the ground and remembering where you come from, Buddie’.

In a statement released to Glasgow Live, Nutini said: ‘We wanted to organise a show to try and raise as much money as we can for two very important causes.’

He added that the show was just a ‘small way’ of helping the ‘much needed funds’ so that the charities can ‘continue to do the breath-taking, and ever more critical work that they do.’

Nutini’s nearly two-decade career began in 2006 with the release of his top-charting single, Last Request.

The track debuted at number five on the UK Singles Chart and was followed by the release of his debut album, These Streets, which was an immediate success with fans, debuting at number three on the UK Albums Chart.

In the years since, the singer has performed multiple sold-out shows across the UK and made multiple festival appearances, including at Glastonbury in 2007.

His most recent album release, Last Night in the Bittersweet, hit streaming services in the summer of 2022 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, making it his third number-one record.
