Paloma Faith cancels show due to 'exhaustion' as Glastonbury hangs in balance
Singer Paloma Faith has cancelled her show in Southampton, saying that after “suffering from exhaustion and catching various illnesses” from her children, her voice has been “severely affected and my range is compromised”.
In an Instagram post she said: “I’m incredibly upset and disappointed to announce that I need to cancel my show tonight in Southampton. After suffering from exhaustion and catching various illnesses from my kids my voice has been severely affected and my range is compromised.
“I have sought advice from medical professionals, they have advised that I need to rest my voice and that means I’ve had to cancel tonight’s show. I’m so sorry to everyone who bought tickets, I’ve loved being on the road and seeing all your gorgeous faces, and I’m gutted I won’t be dancing with you tonight.
“There will be other opportunities in the future I’m sure. Ticket holders will be able to claim refunds from point of purchase. Loads of love, Paloma x”.
Paloma announced the bad news on Instagram
Paloma has since turned off comments on her Instagram post where she announced the disappointing news. However, some unhappy fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain.
"Why leave it until today to tell us that she can't do her concert tonight??? So disappointing for everyone who had plans to travel," one fumed. Another echoed: "Thanks Paloma for telling us mere hours before the show was to start. I had taken the day off."
"Hope she feels better," someone else added. While another fan tweeted: "Poor Paloma that can't be easy. Being exhausted is the worst thing in the world."
Back in April, Paloma revealed she had to cancel another show due to a "devastating" illness. The news came just one day after the Cry Baby hitmaker shared her regret after being advised to cancel her London concert due to the condition.
Laryngitis often affects singers as it is inflammation of the voice box, caused by overuse, irritation or infection. The NHS states that symptoms include difficulty speaking, a sore throat, mild fever and cough.
At the time, the singer said she was "devastated" to cancel her concert in Cardiff but had done everything in her power to try and get back on stage. She told fans: "I am devastated to announce I have been advised by medical professionals not to perform my Cardiff show tomorrow but to reschedule. I am doing vocal rest, steaming, gargling and I even had a steroid injection."
Paloma continued: "At the moment it's one day at a time so will let you know tomorrow about Brighton but I don't want to do anything more than I want to do these shows and know that when you do come they will be the best show I can do for you. So far this tour has been incredible and I am dying to get on with it."
She added: "This is the worst thing to have to do," she added before continuing: "And I can't apologise enough... Weirdly the kids are behaving better now I can't speak, which is confusing me. Please hang on to your tickets and as soon as my team have a date to reschedule to we will let you know."
