Usopp's Best Episodes in One Piece, Ranked
Usopp may seem like a cowardly fighter in the One Piece anime, but several episodes do showcase his dream to become a courageous warrior, and that one day it might become closer to reality. The sniper for the Straw Hat Pirates is quite easily the physically weakest member of the crew, which is why he often relies on a combination of smarts, luck, and skill. Toei Animation really puts it on display in recent key episodes based on the manga.
Whether he shoots down a government flag in defiance of the world, or stands up for his friends when they cannot do it themselves, Usopp often proves himself up to the challenge in these One Piece anime episodes. What truly makes these moments remarkable is that Usopp isn’t a particularly strong character, so his intrepidity stands out even more.

Usopp becomes a god in One Piece
With regard to Usopp’s fighting performance after the One Piece time skip, the Dressrosa arc gives him several crowning moments of achievement. He even snatches victory from the jaws of defeat when Sugar makes the mistake of feeding him a spicy grape intended for her. Usopp manages to knock her out by accident when he scares her with a terrifying face, which inadvertently saves all the toy soldiers under Sugar’s control.
This particular episode highlights a very heartwarming moment between Usopp and the newly freed gladiators near a port. Hajrudin picks up a barely conscious Usopp, lifts him very high in the air for everybody to see, and proclaims him to be a god as light shines down. The onlooking crowd proceeds to cheer for Usopp and even asks him for advice going forward. It marks the birth of the famous ''God'' Usopp.

He Manages to Defeat a Fishman 10x Stronger Than Him
Chew from One Piece spits out water
Even in the earliest arcs, when he was at his most cowardly, Usopp would always stand his ground when it mattered the most. This holds true in Arlong Park when the mere human goes up against fishmen with far superior physical stats. Episode 40 of the One Piece anime is a showcase for both Sanji and Usopp, since they manage to defeat their respective opponents, yet it’s arguably far more impressive in the latter’s case.
In the previous episode, Usopp is forced to run away from Chew, who can spit out water bullets from his mouth with killing intent. Although he could’ve easily played dead and gotten away, Usopp instead decides to personally confront the fishman. It’s a truly awesome display of courage. With a bit of trickery involving flammable substances, Usopp lights Chew on fire and repeatedly beats him up with his trusty hammer.

One Piece: Usopps Best Identities - From Sogeking to God Usopp
Usopp has created a lot of fake identities due to different reasons throughout One Piece's long tenure. Here are the best among them.
Despite a heart crushing departure from the Straw Hats in the Water 7 arc, Usopp still wanted to save Nico Robin after her capture by CP9. One Piece Episode 257 marks a triumphant debut of Sogeking, where he snipes Marine during a stealth mission so Franky and Sanji won’t be caught. However, it’s really Episode 258 where he truly shines.
What follows is a ridiculously over-the-top music video. With a flowing red cape and golden sun mask, Sogeking plays his catchy theme song, much to Franky and Sanji’s confusion. As the lyrics state, he was born on an island of snipers, and he never quite misses his mark. The funniest part is when Sogeking clearly pretends to jump off a cliff, even though a camera pans out to show that he’s still in the same exact spot.
Perona Experiences The Worst Fright of Her Life
She Didn't Expect Usopp to Be That Scary
Perona, Afraid of Roaches, One Piece
With a cute design and the ability to control ghosts, Perona is a very popular One Piece antagonist from the Thriller Bark saga. The Horo Horo no Mi gives her the ability to suck out the motivation and morale of her victims. Unfortunately for her, Usopp proves to be immune to negativity, since that’s always his emotional state.
Episode 361 is the hilarious climax of the fight between Perona and Usopp. After he scares her with cockroaches, he sets up his finisher to be a 10-ton hammer, like a true warrior of Elbaf. Perona is too paralyzed with fear to realize that it’s fake, and faints right as it barely touches her forehead. Usopp is truly a master of trickery and mental damage.

One Piece: The Straw Hats Post-Wano Bounties Explained
Chapter 1058 of One Piece, "New Emperors," finally confirmed all of the Straw Hat Pirates' bounties coming out of Wano, and they saw major increases.
Usopp’s first victory over Sugar had major consequences, since this meant all her toy soldiers became allies for the Straw Hats, giving them extra support in the Dressrosa revolution. A visibly enraged Donquixote Doflamingo issue hits on all his enemies in Episode 681. Due to his integral role in Sugar’s defeat, not only is Usopp given the nickname ''God,'' he also gets a bounty of 500,000,000 berries, the highest among the hit list.
For context, this was higher than Luffy’s bounty of 400,000,000 berries prior to Doflamingo’s own defeat. Usopp is understandably horrified, since now he carries a large target on his back. Regardless, his perceived threat level has come a long way in One Piece. Even major players of the criminal underworld are taking note of Usopp.
Luffy and Usopp Duel Over The Going Merry
Usopp Still Puts Up a Good Fight Despite Losing
Usopp argues with Luffy in Water 7 over Going Merry, One Piece
The entire Water 7 arc is a heartbreaking experience for the Straw Hats, as the crew starts to split apart. It begins with Usopp challenging Luffy over the rights to Going Merry. He secretly knew the ship's keel was beyond repair after the events of Skypiea, yet he didn't want to just leave the memories behind. Despite the clear strength difference, Usopp still went up against his captain in the futile hope that Kaya's ship could be saved.
Episode 236 is among the hardest to watch in the One Piece anime. Even when he's clearly outmatched, Usopp fights with every fiber of his being, and even reflects Luffy’s powerful attacks back at him with an Impact Dial. However, these creative tactics only delay the inevitable. Usopp loses in the end, and eventually leaves the Straw Hats for an extended period of time. It's a somber episode that requires tissues upon first viewing.
Sugar Gets Knocked Out a Second Time by Usopp
Usopp Has a Nasty Habit of Scaring Young Women
Usopp uses an illusion to scare Sugar unconscious during the Dressrosa Arc of One Piece.
It was a complete fluke when Usopp knocked out Sugar the first time in the Dressrosa arc. However, when she's back up and running, Usopp redeems himself by Episode 697. She can only use the Hobi Hobi no Mi when she's fully conscious, so the Straw Hat sniper has to act quickly. Otherwise, the entire city would be turned into toys. With a large bounty on his head, and several citizens trying to claim it, Usopp pulls off the impossible.
On top of a plateau overseeing the kingdom, he pulls off a trick shot from several miles away. Usopp manages to unlock Kenbunshoku Haki, granting him the ability to locate faraway targets just by their aura. He uses a bullet shaped like his scary face from earlier, fires it off right in front of Sugar, and causes her to faint once again. Usopp is truly the MVP of Dressrosa, let alone this One Piece episode.

Usopp and Chopper versus Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas perfectly encapsulates One Piece’s overall tone. It offers a great mix of comedy and drama. However, in stark contrast to the goofy nature of the whack-a-mole fight, there is an underlying seriousness of the situation. Usopp is severely beaten within an inch of his life, but when the Baroque Works agents laugh at Luffy’s dream to become a Pirate King, he stands up for his nakama.
There is a time when someone cannot run away from a fight. Despite his cowardly nature, Usopp defends his captain’s honor and pride, and takes a direct stand against his enemies. His following speech is emotionally charged with powerful statements of friendship and determination. Shortly afterward, despite their injuries, Usopp and Chopper pull off a miraculous upset and defeat the troublesome duo.
Sogeking Defiantly Shoots Down That Flag
The Straw Hats Declare War on The World Government
Sogeking takes aim in One Piece, Enies Lobby
Every single One Piece fan should actively seek out Episode 301 for appointment viewing. All hope seems lost for Nico Robin at Enies Lobby. Now a captured prisoner for CP9, she fully realizes that if the Straw Hats make a rescue attempt, the entire world government will go after them. Spandam foolishly believes they will back down in a standoff, but he’s completely shocked when the Straw Hats stick up for Robin.
Luffy gives Sogeking a direct order to shoot the government flag of Enies Lobby. The sniper doesn’t even hesitate to burn down the Fire Bird Star. Within a moment’s notice, Robin’s crewmates have just declared war on the World Government for her sake, which leads to her famous proclamation that she finally wants to live. This episode is a defining example of Usopp’s latent bravery. He will always stand up for his friends no matter what.

With the Marines hot on their trail, the Straw Hats depart with their ship from Water 7. Vice Admiral Garp launches a direct attack on the Thousand Sunny. Cannonballs hurl over the waters in the midst of heavy gunfire. Meanwhile, on the shores of a scrap island, Usopp calls out to his friends, so they can pick him up. Given he left the crew on bad terms in the previous arc, Usopp’s attempts at apologies fall on deaf ears until he tearfully admits he was in the wrong, and wishes he could take it all back.
In one of the most heartfelt reunions in the One Piece series, Luffy stretches out his hand to grab Usopp and bring him back to the Thousand Sunny. They cry tears of joy as the Straw Hats make their escape, with the crew fully united now. It’s a powerful moment in Usopp’s character development, as he swallows his pride and stops telling lies for once.
