India-UAE travel: Some flights cancelled till afternoon after bad weather hits Delhi
Two airlines have cancelled flights after Delhi was hit by a spell of bad weather on Friday.
Spice Jet and Indigo, two Indian budget carriers, took to social media to inform passengers that its flights departing from Terminal 1 will be cancelled after a roof collapsed at the Delhi airport.
Delhi Airport took to its social media page to inform passengers of flight cancellations and said, "Flights at Terminal 1 Arrivals are also operating. However, the departing flights from Terminal 1 are cancelled till 2pm today."
However, the airport also added, "All departing and arriving flights from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are fully operational."
Three fire tenders rushed to the spot after receiving reports of a roof collapse, earlier today. "Around 5.30am, we received a call regarding a roof collapse at Terminal-1 of Delhi airport. Three fire engines have been rushed to the spot," says an official from Delhi Fire Services.
One person has lost their life in the incident.
The incident occurred when Delhi-NCR was hit by a spell of heavy rains on Friday.
Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) received incessant rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning beginning in the early hours of Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies and varying intensities of rain accompanied by gusty winds for the next few days in the capital.
As predicted by IMD for June 28, the forecast includes light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures similar to the previous day and wind speeds reaching up to 35 km/h.
Weather on June 29 is expected to be slightly cooler, with a high of 36ºC and a low of 28ºC. The city will likely experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. On June 30, temperatures will drop further to 34ºC, with moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds.
