England suffer early blow in Slovakia clash as Marc Guehi is ruled out of potential quarter-final after booking - giving Gareth Southgate a defensive headache if they qualify
England have been dealt a blow after Marc Guehi was booked three minutes into the last-16 clash with Slovakia, ruling him out of a possible quarter-final.
The Crystal Palace star, one of England's best players at Euro 2024 so far, was given a yellow card for a challenge on David Strelec.
Guehi had been played into trouble by Kieran Trippier and upended Strelec.
Referee Umut Meler opted to book the centre back, whose challenge prevented Slovakia from launching a dangerous attack.
Guehi was one of two England players booked in the first eight minutes as Kobbie Mainoo, handed his first start at the tournament by Gareth Southgate, was also shown a yellow card.
