Sonakshi Sinha's Dad Performs Hindu Rituals at Her Inter-faith Wedding; Users Say 'Modern Kanyadan'

Shatrughan Sinha on Wednesday shared some unseen videos and photos from his daughter and actress Sonakshi Sinha’s inter-faith wedding with Zaheer Iqbal. Sonakshi and Zaheer opted for a civil marriage which took place at the actress’ Bandra apartment on June 23. In one of the videos, shared by Shatrughan on his official X account, he and his wife Poonam Sinha can be seen performing Hindu rituals at the intimate wedding as Sonakshi and Zaheer are seated beside them with folded hands. We can also hear a priest chanting shlokas in Sanskrit in the clip.
Sharing the video, Shatrughan wrote, “With an attitude of gratitude we would like to thank everyone for celebrating with us on our special day seems to be the ‘wedding of the century’ with your warmth, love, congratulatory messages for our darling daughter #SonakshiSinha with #ZaheerIqbal as they start a new chapter in their beautiful journey of their lives.”
The unseen video went viral on social media in no time, with fans showering their blessings on the newlyweds. One user even called the rituals “modern kanyadan”. Another one said, “So inspiring. Love my India. So many religions so many people but we still remain in harmony most of the time compared to any other country.” “Wow, Zaheer is performing puja,” a third user commented.
Earlier, Shatrughan Sinha lashed out at those protesting against his daughter Sonakshi’s inter-faith wedding with Zaheer Iqbal and calling it “love jihad”.
“Anand Bakshi saab has written about such professional protestors, ‘Kucch to log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. To this I would like to add, ‘Kehne waale agar bekar, bekaam-kaaj ke ho to kehna hi kaam ban jata hai (For unemployed people, this is all the work they have).’ My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional,” he told Times Now.
“A wedding is a very personal decision between two people; no one has the right to interfere or comment. To all the protestors I say – go, get a life. Do something useful with your life. Aur kucch nahi kehna (I have nothing else to say),” the veteran actor added.
