Prince Harry to receive special honour for 'tireless' work with veterans
Prince Harry has been chosen as a 2024 honoree at the 2024 ESPY Awards in recognition of his work in the veteran community via the Invictus Games.
The Duke of Sussex will be one of three recipients of the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the awards ceremony on June 27.
The royal will receive the award "in honour of his tireless work in making a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport".
Prince Harry has been chosen as a 2024 honoree at the 2024 ESPY Awards.
The organisation explained: "After serving for 10 years in the British Armed Forces, including two tours of duty in Afghanistan as a forward air controller and Apache helicopter pilot, Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games Foundation, continuing his service by creating an international platform to support wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women – both active-duty and veterans – who are navigating both physical and invisible injuries.

"Since inception, the Games have transcended borders and impacted lives across every continent, bringing together competitors from 23 nations, with continued support and programming 365 days of the year.
"Now celebrating its tenth year, The Invictus Games has evolved into a globally celebrated and acclaimed organisation that celebrates resilience, community, and healing through the power of sport."
The Duke of Sussex will be one of three recipients of the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the awards ceremony on June 27.
The award has been named after NFL legend and US Army Ranger Pat Tillman who left his sporting career enlisted following the September 11 terrorist attacks.
"This one is for our entire service community," the royal said in response to learning of the honour.
Prince Harry served with the British Armed Forces for 10 years.
He launched the Invictus Games Foundation to help wounded and former service men and women remain active and access support.
The first Invictus Games was held in London in 2014 and will next take place Vancouver Whistler in 2025, the first ever winter version of the games.
Also honoured at the awards will be University of South Carolina's women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley, who will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, and former NFL safety Steve Gleason, who will be given the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.
"It's our privilege to recognize three incredible individuals — Steve Gleason, Dawn Staley and Prince Harry," Kate Jackson, VP, Production, ESPN said in a press release.
He launched the Invictus Games Foundation to help wounded and former service men and women.
"These honorees have used their platforms to change the world and make it more inclusive for marginalised and suffering communities, demonstrating incredible resilience, positivity and perseverance, and we're thrilled to celebrate them at The 2024 ESPYS."
The first Invictus Games was held in London in 2014 and will next take place Vancouver Whistler in 2025.
This year's awards ceremony will be hosted by Serena Williams who is a friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and was a guest on Meghan's podcast Archetypes.
The awards will air on July 11 in the US.
