Calgary officials cautiously optimistic for July 5 water repair completion
They're managing, but patience is wearing thin, especially with a garden full of potatoes. I think we adjust it, but it's getting a little tired. So now a little bit more. But we understand that we have to do our best for the city. And they're lining up at this filling station, one of six across the city, for Calgarians to get untreated water from the river. I stupidly put saw down. So I don't think that's going to survive. I don't think we're going to waste water on that, but. Yeah, my veggies, my flowers. Water use is slowly rising higher than the city's target, but still below their threshold. Conserving water is essential to making sure that we have enough water in situations where there are life saving efforts needed. And we're now learning more behind the city's decision around this year's Calgary Stampede, releasing data to Global News showing water use over the last five Stampedes, with past peak demands significantly higher than the city's current targets. However, Stampede was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Calories Mayor is optimistic in the current timeline for repairs. The timeline we're being given about repairs and return to regular operations is looking at July 5th, and if that's the case, we will be in good shape. If we have to consider other contingencies, we will certainly do that. But a Stampede prepares for those contingencies. City officials say July 5th is the earliest date in their estimates. It's also parade day. We're not out of the woods yet. We still have a lot of work to do and we'll be updating with more information as we go forward. And so we're pleased that we've been working with our partners on those contingency plans as we move through this. Meanwhile, Calgarians continue to hope for a quick resolution while trying to do their part. It is what it is like if we don't have control, right? Like the floods came in, like we could not stop it, right? So this, this will also pass away. Now, Jolie City wants to keep water consumption below that threshold of 480 million liters every day. The target ideally around 450 million liters every day. City officials saying they're going to release more information tomorrow about next steps after the pipes repair, including contingencies if they discover any more issues.
