At 67, Denise Austin Demonstrates ‘Fun’ Calorie-Burning Move to ‘Work Your Waistline’

Whether she’s sharing an impressive #FitOver50 workout video or revealing her top wellness tips, fitness pro Denise Austin continues to share advice with her followers and fans. Now, Austin is sharing a “fun” way to “burn calories” with a throwback-inspired “aerobic” move in a new Instagram video.
The 67-year-old recently partnered with AARP to bring the informative video to her fans, where she demonstrated a “retro” dance move called the “Pony.” In the video, Austin stands on her green yoga mat while wearing an ’80s-inspired workout set, complete with leg warmers, hot pink leggings, and a neon green leotard.
“Dancing is such a fun way to work out. It burns calories and you feel so good,” Austin says in the video. “Do you all wanna throw it back? Do you remember the pony? I love that workout! Retro aerobics, just pony it out!” As Austin speaks, a throwback video of one of her famous beach workouts appears, showing one of her ’80s workout routines.
To perform the move, Austin begins by standing upright on her mat. She starts by hopping her right leg to the right side of the mat, then bringing her left leg over to meet the right foot before swiftly repeating on the other side. At the same time, Austin lifts each arm up over her head, one at a time.
Austin also demonstrated a variation of the exercise for her fans seeking a low-impact move. “You could stay low-impact right here and still do the pony moves,” she says, while performing the exercise without the hopping movement (stepping her feet side-to-side instead). Or, you can “take it up a notch and challenge yourself with a little bit of a bounce,” she explains. “Stay light on your feet.”

While the fun move is a great addition to any cardio workout, the fitness star shares that the “Pony” exercise “also helps work that waistline” as she instructs viewers to “bend at the waist” while moving from side-to-side. “There ya go, have fun! Do it for a minute!”
