Rutgers Basketball: Important day looms for Scarlet Knights Class of 2025
Head coach Steve Pikiell and Rutgers has welcomed the best recruiting class in program history this summer and is hard at work in the Class of 2025 as well.
Next week on July 1, a very important day will arrive for the Scarlet Knights as two highly-rated recruits will announced their decisions.
On Monday, it was announced that four-star small forward Dorian Jones will make his decision on July 1. He has included Rutgers in his final list of four — along with Ohio State, Michigan, and Missouri.
The 6-foot-5 Jones is currently ranked as the 50th overall player in ESPN’s Top 100 rankings for 2025. He hails from Richmond Heights High School and is the fourth-ranked player in the state of Ohio.
Jones fits into what Rutgers is looking to improve offensively. He is a multi-faceted player on the perimeter that can shoot from the three-point line and use his size to get inside. Jones handles the ball like a guard and can play at all three levels.
Another four-star recruit that would fit perfectly for Rutgers is small forward Jaylen Harrell. He is currently ranked as the No. 2 player in Massachusetts. After originally announcing that he would make his decision in May, Harrell pushed back the date to give it some more thought. Now, he will decide between a field of six.
Harrell included Rutgers on his final list with Kansas, Providence, Virginia Tech, Xavier, and Alabama.
The Scarlet Knights are enjoying a deep and talented roster for the 2024-25 season but Pikiell wants to make sure that the program is set up for success for years to come.
