Blue Jays’ Ricky Tiedemann strikes out five in rehab start at Dunedin

If there’s one team that needed some good news, it would be the Toronto Blue Jays.

They got just that on Wednesday as top prospect Ricky Tiedemann looked sharp in his third rehab start with the Dunedin Blue Jays, the team’s single-A affiliate.

He took on the Lakeland Flying Tigers, the Detroit Tigers’ affiliate, and came out of the game after facing nine batters in 2.1 innings, striking out five and only giving up two walks. He got whiffs on 10 of the 19 swings he prompted.

This was his third appearance in Dunedin. He didn’t allow any runs in his last start, pitching two innings with four strikeouts against the Daytona Tortugas last Thursday.

Tiedemann has been recovering from ulnar nerve inflammation that forced him onto the injured list earlier this season in mid-April after three starts with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

In 2023, Tiedemann threw 62 innings across three minor-league levels and the Arizona Fall League (AFL). He finished the MiLB season with a 3.68 ERA, 82 strikeouts and 23 walks.

At the AFL, he was named the Pitcher of the Year, allowing just five runs over 18 innings of work while racking up 23 strikeouts.

This season with Buffalo, Tiedemann has a 5.63 ERA with 10 strikeouts and nine walks.
