Trudeau and Tsilhqot?in nation celebrate anniversary of land ruling
Today marks 10 years since the Supreme Court recognized that Chiloton Nation and confirmed Chilkoten title to more than 1700 square kilometres of land right here in the interior of British Columbia. It was the first time in Canada that Aboriginal title had been recognized. It took a lot of work by many, many extraordinary and dedicated leaders to get there, but you never gave up. This is what we're celebrating today. Your strength, your resilience, you know, it was, it was difficult to, to win Aboriginal title, go through the courts, but sometimes it's even harder when you're negotiating and stuff. But it allows us to continue that. It allows us to continue the journey to define, define our place and define, you know. Where does Canada and where does BC sit within our nation quality of life? Homes. Education. All of those things are very important to us. And this is the journey to to to get us there.
