Horror as human remains are found in a 40ft well near missing Texas student Caleb Harris' apartment after he disappeared in March when he went to pick up an Uber Eats order at 3am

Human remains have been discovered in a 40 foot well near missing Texas college student Caleb Harris' apartment months after he disappeared when he went to collect a food delivery.

The remains were found by Corpus Christi, Texas city employees who were doing routine maintenance work on a 40-foot deep well at the Perry Point waste water collection point on Monday, according to a statement by Corpus Christi police.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times said that the well was drained so that emergency services could descend into it and retrieve the remains.

There were reportedly 'no obvious signs' of homicide, but the remains have been transported to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office for examination and identification, the police said.

The age and gender of the body are not known.

Detectives are investigating how the human remains found their way into the well.

The remains were found near missing 21-year-old Caleb Harris' apartment, a sophomore at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, who disappeared on March 4 without his shoes, wallet, and keys.

In the early hours of March 4, he had stepped downstairs to collect an Uber Eats delivery at his Corpus Christie home, but never returned.

His roommate found the order outside the door of the apartment the next day. He was reported missing by 11 am.

The 21-year-old had spent the evening playing with a dog that had just been bought by one of his two roommates and had been sending Snapchats to his sister until moments before he vanished.

Uber say the order was delivered to the doorstep of the apartment block in Ennis Joslin Road and there was no sign of Harris who had turned off his phone seconds earlier.

'He kind of vanished,' father Randy Harris said following his disappearance, 'There's no evidence of wrongdoing, but there's no evidence at all.'

Police and Harris' family have been desperately searching for the student since his disappearance  a few months ago.
