Flyers Trade Up; Make Two Selections In Second Round

The Philadelphia Flyers have selected forward Jack Berglund and defenseman Spencer Gill at 51st and 59th overall, respectively, in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft.

Standing at 6'2" and 207 lbs., one of Berglund's most noticeable attributes is his physicality, and is another name on the depth chart when it comes to centers in the Flyers' organization.

Although many scouting reports have pointed out that there's no one standout aspect of his game, he is noted as being able to "adjust to SHL games with ease while also bullying around his own age group in U-20 action."

He is noted as having admirable composure and having a skillset that can best be described as "jack of all trades, master of none." He is "extremely effective" and has solid positional awareness with a strong work ethic.

Largely considered to be more of a bottom-six forward, Berglund's ability to be solid across all facets of his game can add even more depth and complexity to the Flyers' offense whenever he officially joins the organization's ranks.

The Flyers then traded up to No. 59—selecting Spencer Gill— giving the Nashville Predators their No. 77 pick in 2024, along with the 2025 third-round pick they acquired from Minnesota during the first round of the draft.

Gill is noted as having "great poise and smarts" on the blue line, and scouting reports have highlighted his impressive coordination and movement for the 6'4" defenseman.

He also has a great shot and knows how to make himself available to generate offense, along with a commendable work ethic that he's using to improve his aggressiveness and gain more strength as his game evolves.
