Ken Holland Could Still Be Involved With Edmonton Oilers Even Though His Contract is Expiring

EDMONTON -- It's not over till it's over.

The Edmonton Oilers fell short in Game seven of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. It was a hard-fought series for both teams. In the end, the team that played better in Game seven won.

The Oilers attention shifts to the offseason. There are many things on the agenda including player personnel decisions and management adjustments.

The general manager position is a big talking point at this current juncture. Ken Holland is presently the team's President of Hockey Operations (POHO) and general manager (GM). The one catch is that his contract expires on June 30th.

Darren Dreger took to twitter yesterday to report that Holland may not be finished in Edmonton.

The tweet reads out, "I believe there's a role for Ken Holland moving forward in Edmonton...IF he wants it. His situation will be clarified within a few days. As of right now indications are that he will not be at the Draft in Vegas."

My Take

This tweet gives me the feeling that Holland will not be back as GM or POHO. However, this information doesn't rule out the possibility of a "Special Advisor" type of role.

Either way the Oilers will be making some changes moving forward. I don't think it's unreasonable for the Oilers to look for two separate individuals to fulfill the POHO and GM positions.

With the NHL Entry Draft days away, and free agency looming shortly after, Oilers fans won't have to wait long to see what happens.
