Bargain Hunt expert fumes ‘what have you done’ after scolding buyer for 'poor' purchase

On Wednesday’s instalment of Bargain Hunt, BBC viewers were taken to Herefordshire where two teams tried to find items that would make them a profit at auction.

During their search, Tom from the blue team stumbled upon a children’s toy of a clown inside a car. After being set a challenge by host Christina Trevanion to find a vintage toy, Tom was thrilled with the find as he told the expert and the teammate's mum it was being sold for £16.

However, his mum Julie wasn’t keen as she told her son she wasn’t convinced it would do well at auction.

Despite hesitations, Tom decided he would try and haggle on the price to get it for cheaper and initially asked if he could have it for below £10.

The woman replied: “It’s a bit too much, I can do £12 on it for you.” As Tom continued to discuss the price as expert Ochuko and Julie laughed in the background, not believing the item was of value.

With the woman adamant about selling it at £11, his mum shouted: “If you want to go with it then on your head it is!”

After making the sale, the antique expert yelled: “Oh dear! What has he done?! Tom, you’ve let yourself down.” Although the BBC star was laughing at the buy, he told Tom that he’d done well in securing a challenge buy.

The item didn't go down well when up for auction

Later on, Christina spoke to auctioneer Tim Weeks to get his thoughts on the children’s toy. Clearly not overwhelmed, he said: “Honestly, if I’m being nice I think it’s a poor item, a poor toy, I think I’m going to struggle a little bit.”

Putting an estimate of £10- £20, it was time to see how much Tom’s toy would sell at auction. However, it looked as though Tim and Ochuko were right to be concerned when the bidding started at £5.

Sadly, no one else was interested in the item as that was the price the toy sold for. Holding his head in his hands, Tom said: “Oh no!”

In the end, it was the red team who were triumphant with a profit of £49 while the blues ended with a total profit of £20
