Fans go wild as glamorous Paraguayan swimming star Luana Alonso qualifies for the Paris Olympics

Rising Paraguayan professional swimmer Luana Alonso is the latest Olympic athlete to go viral on social media as she raised eyebrows by posting news that she qualified for this year's games in Paris, earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the 20-year-old college student shared that she can't wait to participate in the Summer Olympic Games for the second time in her life after appearing at the ones in Tokyo in 2021, which were pushed back a year due to the COVID pandemic.

'It's official! Qualified for the Paris 2024 games!' she wrote as a caption to her post on X, which has attracted over 2.5million views on the platform in the last 24 hours.

'My heart is happy to represent the country once again! Thanks to my family and sponsors for making this possible! And to all of you who follow me, give me your love and affection. Let's go Paraguay.'

Alonso started trending on X thanks to hundreds of users - many in Argentina - who congratulated her on the achievement. There were even some who pointed out her beauty and recommended that she apply for Miss Universe.

Alonso, who goes to school in the US, initially caught the eye of social media users in 2022 after standing out at the South American Youth Games in Argentina, where she won three medals, including gold in the 100-meter butterfly, for which she set a new national record.

She started swimming at a young age and first started competing at 11 years old.

'After winning, when she heard the Paraguayan [national] anthem, she realized that she loves swimming and that she wanted to be in the Olympics. That dream would end up being fulfilled at the age of 17,' according to Argentinean newspaper Clarin.

Other than swimming at the Tokyo 2021 Summer Olympics, Alonso's appeared at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and the South American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay, later that year.

She's also on a scholarship at Southern Methodist University near Dallas, Texas, and swims for the Mustangs.

She started swimming at a young age and first competed at 11 years old, according to Clarin

Besides representing Paraguay at international swimming events, Alonso also races for SMU

However, Alonso does not want to dedicate her entire life to competitive swimming, previously telling 730 AM Radio that 'It's not what I want in life.'

Instead, her lifelong dream, is 'to be a mother' and start a family.

'And if I continue to be linked to swimming, I think that will not be possible,' she added.

Alonso plans to graduate from college next year and swim until she is 25, 26, or 27 years old before dedicating herself to other passions and pursuing her long-term goals, according to Clarin.
