Max Verstappen understands why dad Jos is furious with Christian Horner amid Red Bull row

Max Verstappen said he understands why his father Jos is furious with Christian Horner as the animosity between them resurfaced in Austria.

Against the serene backdrop of the Styrian hills, the mood at Red Bull has been tense once again. That's because Verstappen Snr pulled out of an on-track parade event at the Red Bull Ring this weekend, accusing team principal Horner of trying to stop him from taking part.

He alleged in an interview with a Dutch newspaper: "In the past few days I've heard from several sides that Christian Horner did everything he could to not let me drive and otherwise to make sure that nothing would be filmed. Then I think,' Say it to my face'. It doesn't have to be this way for me, I find it very disappointing."

And then, speaking to another, he added: "I'm completely finished with Horner. It's like a kindergarten here. I would have been allowed to ride in the end, but I backed out. I find this so childish of Horner, but I think it says something about him."

A Red Bull Racing spokesperson denied that Horner had blocked Verstappen Snr from taking part in the event when approached by Mirror Sport. And Horner repeated that as he was quizzed on the matter by reporters.

He insisted: "I've been made aware [of the allegations]. The legends parade is something that is organised by the circuit. There was no veto from my side or anything like that and I'm sure the legends will be in action later."

Star Red Bull racer Verstappen has tried his best to stay out of the months-long feud between his father and his boss. Again, he tried to be as neutral as he could when asked about this latest war of words.

Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner do not see eye to eye

He said: "Naturally, of course, it is not nice, for myself, for my dad, for Christian or the team. Of course, I don't want these things to happen. My dad has been quite clear about the reasons behind it and of course, I can understand his opinion on that because, at the end of the day, he gets asked to drive the car and finds out he is not wanted to drive the car.

"My dad actually doesn't care, but he was asked to drive it for the Dutch fans. Red Bull - we have a great relationship with the whole track. And I understand the other end is to focus on performance that it takes, so I want a good relationship with everyone, but of course, this scenario could have been avoided."

The row has marred Red Bull's home race in Austria, and the legends parade, which forms part of the team's 20th anniversary celebrations.
