Bronny James, the former USC Trojans guard, has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft after a challenging freshman season. Despite averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, James is set to make his professional leap.
The draft's first round begins Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. PT, with the second round following on Thursday at 1 p.m. PT. James' representation at Klutch Sports, led by Rich Paul, is aiming for a draft selection rather than a two-way contract, indicating a clear preference for a standard NBA roster spot.
"There are not a ton of teams wanting to commit roster slots in the second round, at least right away," Woo cautioned. "If the Lakers are one of those teams, and clearly, they sent them there for very obvious reasons; there's a level of familiarity, I can see him being there and that being what they do."
The Los Angeles Lakers, holding the 55th pick in the second round, are widely speculated to be a potential landing spot for James. This speculation is fueled by the fact that his father, LeBron James, has expressed a desire to play alongside his son in the NBA.
However, there is uncertainty about whether other teams might select Bronny earlier, considering his potential and the unique opportunity he represents. The Lakers' intentions are clear, but the draft's unpredictable nature leaves room for surprises.
