When are EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale on TV during the Euros and Wimbledon?

Soap fans, we’re sorry to say that Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders’ schedules will continue to be thrown about in order to facilitate ITV and the BBC’s sport coverage.

Mostly, this is the The UEFA European Football Championship 2024. That’s Euro 2024 to those of you (like us) that are less football savvy. If Weatherfield County qualify – and as long as cheating Tommy Orpington hasn’t signed for the team, consider us intrigued.

It’s something which divides the fandoms, often at war with each other as to who deserves the coveted place within the schedules.

The championship takes place every four years, though the last one was held in 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The first game of the group stages kicked off on Friday, June 14th and disruption to our visits to soapland can be expected through to the final in Berlin on Sunday, July 14th.

As schedules are only published so far in advance, we only know what’s happening over the next two weeks for now. There will be a total of 51 matches overall.

There’s also coverage of Wimbledon approaching on BBC One. The Championships is the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

This only affects BBC One, which has the rights to air the tournament over ITV.

Tonight, Tuesday, June 25th its England v Slovenia rather than Dingles v Barlows, and there will be no extra additions of our soaps this week to make up for it.

Further disruption follows tomorrow, June 26th, when both soaps are replaced by Georgia vs Portugal.

No doubt this will give Joel Deering (Calum Lill) a bit of time to consider his next move as he continues to evade justice for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) – but with Sabrina’s mate (Sydney Martin) becoming suspicious, how long can he hide?

Luckily, it’s business as usual for the remainder of the week.

You’ll also be able tune in on ITVX from 7am each morning.

ITV1 soap schedule up to Friday, July 5th

• Tuesday, June 25th: No Emmerdale. ITV1 airs England vs Slovenia.
• Wednesday, June 26th: No Coronation Street or Emmerdale. ITV1 airs Georgia vs Portugal.
• Thursday, June 27th: Emmerdale airs as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
• Friday, June 28th: Soaps air as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
• Monday, July 1st: No Coronation Street or Emmerdale. ITV1 airs Group D runner-up vs Group E runner-up followed by Portugal vs Group A/B/C third-place.
• Tuesday, July 2nd: No Coronation Street or Emmerdale. ITV1 airs Group E winner vs Group A/B/C/D third-place followed by Group D winner vs Group F runner-up.
• Wednesday, July 3rd: Soaps air as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
• Thursday, July 4th: Emmerdale airs as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
• Friday, July 5th: No Coronation Street or Emmerdale. ITV1 airs coverage of the opening and second quarter-final.

When will EastEnders be on air?

The BBC are doing something a little bit differently with EastEnders – you can actually tune in on BBC iPlayer from 6am each morning that the show would usually air, so you can see them well in advance of their TV airing.

Luckily, BBC Two will be taking one for the team and becoming a temporary home to the residents of Albert Square for select episodes throughout the sports coverage.

That means on Tuesday, June 25th, Wednesday, June 26th, Wednesday, July 3rd and Thursday, July 4th, you’ll have to hop channels to catch up with the EastEnders goings on.

To make matters more confusing, episodes are doubled up later next week to make up for the fact that they aren’t airing on TV earlier in the week.

BBC One soap schedule up to Friday, July 5th

• Tuesday, June 25th: EastEnders will air on BBC Two, and on BBC iPlayer. BBC One will air news coverage following France vs Poland.
• Wednesday, June 26th: EastEnders will air on BBC Two, and on BBC iPlayer. BBC One will air Ukraine vs Belgium.
• Thursday, June 27th: EastEnders will air on BBC One, and on BBC iPlayer.
• Friday, June 28th: EastEnders will air on BBC One, and on BBC iPlayer as a result of no episode airing on Monday.
• Monday, July 1st: No EastEnders on television, but it will be on BBC iPlayer. BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
• Tuesday, July 2nd: No EastEnders on television, but it will be on BBC iPlayer. BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
• Wednesday, July 3rd: Two episodes of EastEnders will air on BBC Two as BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
• Thursday, July 4th: Two episodes of EastEnders will air on BBC Two as BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
• Friday, July 5th: No EastEnders as usual.

Will any other soaps be affected by Euros coverage?

As the schedules are only published so far in advance, we’re not quite sure whether Casualty will be moved to BBC Two just yet.

However, just like EastEnders, the show is dropped earlier in the day on the iPlayer, so you can tune in whenever you want.

Luckily, none of the other soaps, such as Hollyoaks or Neighbours, are affected.
