The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacking corps has been ravaged by injuries for the majority of the 2023 season.
However, it took an even bigger hit over the weekend when linebacker Elandon Roberts suffered a pectoral injury. While it’s not considered season-ending, he’ll likely miss at least Week 17.
Pittsburgh already lost offseason additions Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander to season-ending injuries leaving the linebacking corps extremely thin. With Roberts out of the starting lineup, the Steelers are calling in more reserves.
NFL agent Doug Henderson announced his client – and former Pro Bowl linebacker – Jaylon Smith is signing with the Steelers.
Smith entered the NFL after a devastating injury he suffered at Notre Dame. He eventually worked his way back from the knee injury and made the Pro Bowl in 2019.
Smith signed with the New Orleans Saints practice squad before the 2023 season and was signed to the Las Vegas Raiders’ active roster in November. After being released in late November, he’s found a new home in Pittsburgh.
He’ll likely start his run with the Steelers on the team’s practice squad, but could be needed come game time.
