Ollie Watkins injury: Unai Emery gives update on Aston Villa striker

Unai Emery has revealed that Ollie Watkins is ’50/50′ to be fit for Aston Villa’s clash with Bournemouth this weekend.

Watkins, who has scored seven goals in the Premier League this season, missed Villa’s 2-1 win at home to Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night due to injury.

Emery had initially claimed that Watkins’ injury was minor but the Villa manager now claims that the striker could miss his side’s trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

‘He is going to be a doubt for Sunday but we are adding other players like Zaniolo, Duran and Ramsey getting more minutes,’ Emery said.

‘He is not completely unavailable for Sunday, we are going to wait until tomorrow and it depends if we can take a risk with him. Also, what is he feeling for 90 minutes.

‘We are going to think about only the match on Sunday. At the moment it is 50/50 for Sunday.’

Emery also added: ‘It’s very important when players are coming back after long injuries. Some players make an impact with good performances, like Alex Moreno was doing yesterday and Robin Olsen as well after not playing recently.

‘Jacob Ramsey was taking minutes after his injury and Jhon Duran was being consistent in 90 minutes after a long time not playing.

‘It’s a very good example for other players. It’s very good for players in the squad because you have to create and build a strong structure inside and good feelings.

‘Everyone has to be happy when we are winning and together when we are losing in the bad moments and then try to create a positive energy and enjoy every moment with our supporters.’
