Generally speaking, there are not direct side effects from eating oranges during a menstrual cycle or days during menstruation. However, overall diet quality can impact hormones both during and between periods. Dietary patterns that focus on whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, lean proteins, fish, whole grains, nuts, and seeds are recommended to help support hormone health. For those living with irritable bowel syndrome, eating oranges may increase one’s risk in experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms and during a menstruation period. These symptoms may be mistaken for menstruation related pains and discomfort. Otherwise, and since oranges are nutrient dense food, consuming oranges is a great choice to help meet daily fruit intake recommendations.

There is a lack of evidence about the side effects of oranges during periods. That derives from the fact that the consumption of oranges can help in reducing cramps and other periods symptoms. Also, oranges can increase the temperature of the body and can trigger period to come faster. However, I can’t assume that this triggering can be characterized as a side effect.

Consuming citrus fruits during the menstrual cycle can be helpful to decrease the overall inflammation in the body, and provide fiber to the diet, which is helpful in eliminating excess estrogen in the body that may cause more pain during the cycle.
