Das Organisationsteam des Eurovision Song Contests (ESC) hat Israels überarbeiteten Song jetzt genehmigt. Damit nimmt das Land an dem Wettbewerb teil, wie der Fernsehsender Kan meldete. Die erste Version war abgelehnt worden, weil sie als zu politisch empfunden wurde.

Das umgeschriebene Lied heißt nun „Hurricane“ und hat die gleiche Melodie wie sein Vorgänger „October Rain“ („Oktoberregen“). Der ursprünglich eingereichte Song hatte vom Massaker der islamistischen Hamas in Israel am 7. Oktober gehandelt. Das war dem Organisationsteam zu politisch und das ESC-Lied wurde abgelehnt. Der israelische Staatspräsident Jitzchak Herzog wandte sich daraufhin an den Vorstand der European Broadcasting Union (EBU) und bat, dass das Land seine Stimme erheben dürfe – in einer Zeit, in der Menschen Israel hassen und ausschließen wollen würden.

Der israelische Sender Kan war aber zunächst dagegen, den Text zu bearbeiten. Ohne diesen Schritt hätte das Land nicht am Musikwettbewerb teilnehmen können. Unter anderem schwedische Künstlerinnen und Künstler hatten wegen des Gaza-Kriegs einen Ausschluss Israels vom ESC gefordert. Die Organisatorinnen und Organisatoren lehnten das ab.

Beginn am 7. Mai, Österreich dabei

Der 68. Eurovision Song Contest von Malmö beginnt am 7. Mai mit dem ersten Halbfinale, zwei Tage später folgt das zweite Halbfinale, in dem auch Österreichs Vertreterin Kaleen mit „We Will Rave“ um ein Finalticket singt. Die Endrunde des größten Musikwettbewerbs der Welt ist für den 11. Mai angesetzt. Insgesamt gehen in diesem Jahr Vertretungen aus 37 Ländern in Malmö an den Start. Im Vorjahr gewann Sängerin Loreen mit „Tattoo“ in Liverpool.
