B.C. losing people to other provinces

BC’s population is in a constant state of flux, but according to Statistics Canada, BC is experiencing an outflow of people to other places in Canada. For the first time since 2012, more people moved out of the province, then moved in, the cost of living and housing instability making it an easy choice. Paula Spur is moving to Calgary May 1st. We went from middle class to way below the poverty line in the drop of a hat. They happened overnight and we both were. According to Statscan, nearly 68,000 people left BC for other provinces. A bulk of those moving next door, 37,000 ending up in Alberta for the first time in more than a decade. BC had an interprovincial net loss of 8000 people. This isn’t a sign that Vancouver is becoming Detroit, or that we’re seeing a mass abandonment of British Columbia for greener fields. With a strong push through a national ad campaign. Alberta has made it clear its intention is to lure people from other provinces and while BC is losing people across the country. It is still growing at an unprecedented rate, Statscan says. B CS population grew by 178,000 people last year. Premier David EB says despite the growth, the government recognizing the challenges faced by everyone, especially young people, we want them to see a future here. We want them to see a place where they can raise a family, where they can build their lives, where they have access to affordable childcare, affordable housing that they’re able to manage costs.
