Arne Slot rules himself out of Tottenham job to stay at Feyenoord

Arne Slot will not be Tottenham’s next manager after confirming he will stay at Feyenoord.

The Dutchman, who led the club to their first league title in five years this season, held talks with the Eredivisie outfit on Wednesday and has confirmed he was discussing a new contract rather than a move to Spurs.

“I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other interest in me,” Slot said.

“Although I am thankful, my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.

“There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.”

Spurs have been without a permanent head coach since sacking Antonio Conte in March.

His immediate successor, Cristian Stellini, was initially appointed until the end of the season but was removed from his post after just four games. Ryan Mason has been in interim charge since then.

Other candidates like Xabi Alonso have also ruled themselves out of the running, with the former Liverpool midfielder publicly declaring he will not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen.

Talks with Julian Nagelsmann broke down and Mauricio Pochettino, the popular choice among many supporters, is not one of Spurs’ chosen candidates and is set to join Chelsea instead.

Tottenham’s managerial hunt has been further complicated by the departure of director of football Fabio Paratici, who is serving a worldwide ban. Daniel Levy has appointed the incoming Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer but he does not formally start his role until July.

Spurs had hoped to have a new manager in place by then but they are running out of preferred options. Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou are now among the favourites.
