Just hours before India's blockbuster 2024 T20 World Cup clash against Australia in St. Lucia, The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, named the Men in Blue's squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, in which they will play five T20Is.

For those unfamiliar, the series will start on July 6, which is exactly a week after the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The BCCI has rested as many as 13 players from the squad currently playing in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).

This has meant that as many as 13 players not part of the T20 World Cup squad, including traveling reserves Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, have been named in the squad. At age 24, Gill will lead the national team for the first time in his career.

Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Tushar Deshpande are set to make their debuts for the national team in the mega event.

Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the only two players in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour who are also in the main 15 of the T20 World Cup team. However, both have not played a single so far.

As per expectations, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah will not make the trip. Rishabh Pan, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj have also been given a rest. Yuzvendra Chahal will not make the trip to Zimbabwe despite being benched in all games at the T20 World Cup so far.
