Official: Chelsea agree deal to sign Estêvão Willian from Palmeiras
This deal has been in the making for a while, and essentially confirmed for several weeks, but today it’s been made officially official: Chelsea will sign highly rated prospect future superstar Estêvão Willian from Palmeiras.
As Estêvão is only 17 at the moment, he will join only next summer, after he turns 18 — and only after the Club World Cup. (Just like fellow teenager Kendry Páez, who will also join in 2025. His transfer was agreed this time last year.)
Chelsea’s brief official announcement does not contain much useful information beyond that, but reports have indicated that he will sign an 8-year deal though 2033 and that this will be a record transfer from South America to Europe. We are set to pay €34+6m plus another €21m in various add-ons, only €4m of which are considered “difficult”. That’s €57m if things to go well and €61m if things go really well. Let’s hope they go really, really, really well!
