Stephen Warnock narrowly avoided making a humerous faux pas live on BBC Radio 5 Live's coverage of Slovenia's 1-1 draw against Serbia on Thursday afternoon.

After a goalless half, Slovenia right back Zan Karnicnik broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, tapping in a fiery cross from Timi Max Elsnik.

But despite a drab first half affair, the game had a dramatic ending, with Luka Jovic heading in a last-gasp equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time to seal a late draw.

Warnock, who also regularly appears on Sky Sport's The Football Show, was on punditry duty for the match and appeared to nearly drop an 'F-bomb' after the game came to life in the second half.

His co-commentator Lee Blakeman stated: 'Slovenia will have a corner, just like that Stephen Warnock, it's come alive!'

The moment came during BBC Radio 5 Live's coverage of Serbia's dramatic 1-1 draw vs Slovenia

'It has come to life,' Warnock said. He added: 'And thank f...' he said, appearing to stop himself before swearing.

He quickly added: 'Thank goodness for that.'

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to poke fun at Warnock for the save, with one writing: 'Listened to this live at work and was chuckling away to myself.'

'You can break the oppositio's ankles with a mid-syllable pivot like that,' another joked.

One added: 'When you realise you're at your mum's house.'

'Just aboutttt saved it,' another added, while one said: 'Saved it at the very last moment.'

'Snatched victory from the jaws of defeat,' wrote Sky Sports journalist Jamie Weir.

During his playing career, Warnock won a Champions League title, UEFA Supercup, FA Cup and EFL Cup with Liverpool, making 67 appearances for the Reds, while also enjoying stints at Leeds, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile, Slovenia's draw against Serbia saw them miss out on a chance to go above England at the top of Group C, before Gareth Southgate's side play Denmark later on Thursday evening.

Slovenia will go second in the group on two points, with Serbia staying bottom of the group having picked up their first point of the tournament.
