Austin Reaves' Agent Drops Trade Statement After Lakers Hire JJ Redick

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly hired JJ Redick to be their next head coach, which is the first big move in what is a pivotal offseason for the franchise. With the future of LeBron James not yet certain, the Lakers understand they must push the right buttons this summer in order to keep James and his co-star Anthony Davis happy and in championship contention.
For months there has been speculation that LA's preferred course of action this summer would be to deal for a third star next to James and Davis, but a recent statement from Austin Reaves' agent Aaron Reilly makes this seem less likely.
In a post on X following the JJ Redick hire, Reilly acknowledged the affinity Reaves and Redick share for one another, saying he is "keeping receipts" on the third superstar noise:
Many of these hypothetical trades for a third star have included Reaves, which is likely why his agent is addressing that directly. If Redick is indeed still fond of Reaves the way he has been in the past, it would make sense for the Lakers to keep the talented guard to see how he can continue to develop under a new head coach.
While LA may still pursue different trades this summer, especially given their collection of draft assets, it seems Reaves may not be on the move. In 82 games for the Lakers last season, Reaves averaged a career-high 15.9 PPG and 5.5 APG. Still just 26 years old, Reaves can continue to improve.
