This Morning's Dermot O'Leary lands new TV job for 'major network' away from ITV

Dermot O'Leary, the familiar face of ITV's This Morning every Friday, is apparently set to embark on a thrilling new venture this year.

The TV star, who first appeared as a stand-in presenter for Phillip Schofield on the breakfast show a decade ago, seems to have added another project to his extensive portfolio. Dermot will reportedly be at the helm of a pilot episode of a fresh show titled The Talent Test for a "major TV network."

Details about the programme remain confidential, but it's said that the X Factor host will record the pilot at the Hackney Empire on Thursday, July 11, with audience tickets available online, according to the Mirror.

A sneak peek of the show promises an "exciting evening of talent."

This news follows reports from The Sun that Dermot is creating a food-and-drink-themed travel show for ITV, where he will journey alone to explore Ireland, his parents' homeland. Maria and Sean moved to England in 1968.

A source told the publication that Dermot, despite being born and raised in Colchester, Essex, is "very proud" of his Irish roots.

They said: "Dermot has always been incredibly close to his parents and very proud of his Irish heritage, having spent many a summer holiday back in the Emerald Isle."

The source added: "The show would also see him explore another of his great loves - food and drink. And modern Ireland has plenty of both. It's also a cheeky chance to drop in on his parents while he's over there."

Dermot O'Leary's recent absence from This Morning left viewers scratching their heads, but his co-host Alison Hammond was quick to clear the air, revealing that he was off enjoying a well-earned break.

Alison reassured fans by saying: "Just so you know, Dermot's on holiday this week, he deserves it. But you [Josie] are my Louise to my Thelma, my partner in crime. Josie Gibson! ".

The reason behind Dermot's time off became apparent as he had been busy presenting Soccer Aid the Sunday before with Alex Scott.

The star-studded charity event made an early comeback this year at Stamford Bridge, bringing together celebrities to play football and raise money for UNICEF.
