Chiefs getting another Middendorp in Nabi? ‘new coach’ plays helicopter football according to Davids

Raja Casablanca assistant coach Fadlu Davids has implied that Nasreddine Nabi could bring an unpopular style of play to Kaizer Chiefs.

Nabi(58) has reportedly signed a deal with Amakhosi after agreeing to become the DStv Premiership club’s new head coach for next season. The Tunisian is currently with Moroccan giants AS FAR but reports claim Nabi will coach his last match for the club this weekend.

Davids, who served as Orlando Pirates coach, likens Nabi’s style of play to former Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp.

“His teams are more direct in terms of going forward and scoring goals,” Davids said as per The Citizen

“They were the highest scoring team in the league but most of their goals came through set pieces and penalties.

“They were a little bit more direct in their approach compared to our style that we played this season but very effective in getting the results. You can expect a team that moves forward and scores goals.”

Nabi is set to coach Chiefs in the next week or so

“On set pieces, they will be a big threat. I think it is(Nabi stye) similar to the Middendorp style during the season where they (Chiefs) missed out on winning the league (Chiefs lost out to Sundowns on the last day of the season). They scored a lot of goals through set pieces and I think you will see a similar type of football that is result-driven by scoring a lot of goals and winning matches,” Davids added.

Chiefs were initially linked with Nabi back in June 2023 but the Tunisian coach rejected the Soweto giants. He later revealed that Amakhosi did not grant him the opportunity to bring his technical team.

Will Nabi bring helicopter football back to Naturena?

If Nabi indeed prefers helicopter football, it might be a long season for Kaizer Chiefs.
