Bryson DeChambeau admits he is 'frustrated and disappointed' to have been left out of Team USA's Olympic golf team despite understanding why he didn't make the cut.

DeChambeau is still basking in the glory of his second major championship win after edging out Rory McIlroy on a dramatic final day at the US Open.

After McIlroy's extraordinary collapse in the final four holes - which included three bogeys and two putts missed from inside three feet - the American held his nerve to add a second US Open to his collection four years after his maiden triumph.

Though despite winning another major, DeChambeau has failed to make it into Team USA's Olympic squad ahead of this summer's Games in Paris.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is instead joined by recent PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele on the team, as well as Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark.

DeChambeau's omission has sparked controversy, with fans left baffled by the decision just a few days after his success at the US Open.

Yet during an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, the man himself conceded that his involvement in the Saudi-backed LIV breakaway tour meant there would always be 'consequences' when it came to his Olympic hopes.

'I would love to represent the United States,' DeChambeau said on the ESPN talk show. 'It was tough for me not to go last time around 'cos of Covid and it's just one of those things that happened.

'Hopefully one day this game of golf will get figured out and come back together, and I'll be able to play.

'I'm playing great golf, I'm excited. [So] yeah... am I frustrated and disappointed? Sure, you can absolutely say that.

'But I made the choices that I made and there's consequences to that and I respect it. Hopefully sooner rather than later we figure that out so in this great game of golf we can get past all that and move forward into showing how awesome this sport really is around the globe.'

DeChambeau's standings in the rankings have taken a massive hit following his defection to LIV Golf with the rebel circuit exiled from the OWGR, meaning he's only been able to score points at golf's four majors.

Patrick Cantlay rose to eighth in the world after his tie for third at the US Open on Sunday, but he was narrowly edged out by seventh-ranked Morikawa.

Meanwhile McIlroy safely secured an Olympic roster spot. However, the Northern Irishman will represent the Republic of Ireland, not Great Britain.

He also played for Ireland at the pandemic-delayed Games in Tokyo with teammate Shane Lowry, who will join him in Paris once again.
