This summer, Terrace Marshall Jr. has shown signs of finally living up to the high expectations that followed his selection in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Dave Canales has praised Marshall's recent performance, noting a "fantastic two weeks" of practice. This is a stark contrast to his underwhelming career stats of 64 receptions for 767 yards and a single touchdown over three seasons.
Marshall’s renewed vigor in practice has caught the eye of the coaching staff, who have noted his reliability and improved speed. Canales emphasized Marshall’s growing comfort within the new offensive system, suggesting that this could be the catalyst for a breakout season. “He’s been reliable. He’s doing what we’re asking him to do. He’s running the right routes. You can see that this is a big man with speed in there and I think that the more comfortable he’s getting with our system, with our concepts, the faster he looks. I’m really curious to see where he takes that this year. I know he’s had a couple of years here and hasn’t really produced to the potential of what people might think, but hopefully we’ll create an environment where he’s able to get onto our offense and show us something.”
With a clean slate under the new coaching staff and his impressive summer performance, there is cautious optimism that Marshall might finally turn the corner and carve out a meaningful role in the Panthers' offense this season.
