GoldenEye Star Still Has Fans Making Him Say Villain's Catchphrase 29 Years Later
Actor Alan Cumming is easily recognizable to James Bond franchise fans. In 1995, he appeared in the movie GoldenEye, the first franchise film to feature Pierce Brosnan as 007.
In GoldenEye, Cumming played Boris, one of the movie's villains. His most memorable line comes shortly before the character's death, which sees him excitedly proclaim, "I am invincible!" This was immediately followed by Boris getting killed by the explosion of liquid nitrogen canisters, leaving him completely frozen. Nearly three decades after the movie's release, Cumming shared with Entertainment Weekly that fans are still making him say Boris' famous catchphrase 29 years later.

"It was such a long time ago but people still freak out about it. Maybe it has to do with the [GoldenEye] video game, which is iconic," Cumming said. "People always ask me to say, 'I'm invincible' — still shout at me in the street and everything. It's sort of grown slowly and now it's become this sort of catchphrase, I guess. It's great to have a catchphrase. I love a catchphrase."
The Catchphrase Was Featured in the GoldenEye Video Game
The GoldenEye video game adaptation made for the Nintendo 64 console was one of the most popular titles of its era. Cumming's Boris was featured in the game's storyline, and while he doesn't get frozen to death, the character still says the "I am invincible" line after running away from James Bond. Boris was also available to use as a playable character in the multiplayer mode of the game. Given the game's popularity, Cumming may be right that it contributed greatly to the continued legacy of GoldenEye.

Along with Pierce Brosnan in the lead, GoldenEye also featured Sean Bean and Famke Janssen in other villain roles. While it's rumored that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is up for the role of the next James Bond, Janssen recently suggested that the time might be right to have a woman take over as the lead. Janssen, who played Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye, even teased that she'd be open to playing that role herself.
"Female Bond, come on! I'm available. Time for a female," she told Screen Rant in April.
Despite the rumors of Taylor-Johnson possibly becoming the next Bond, no official announcements have been made about when the next movie will be made, or who will be playing the iconic character. Whoever officially gets the part will follow Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
GoldenEye is streaming on Prime Video.
